Joe Ben Gant was born on January 21, 1943 to the late Beatrice I and Joe Nathan Gant in Humphrey, Arkansas. Always charismatic, Joe Ben was the first born of eight children. He was delivered into this world at Grandma Bessie’s log cabin by midwives and a country doctor. Joe Ben began his primary education at Doolittle Elementary School in Chicago, Illinois in 1948. He completed his secondary education at the Havre De Grace Consolidated School in Harford County, Maryland where he graduated in 1961. Joe played the drums as a member of the school’s Drum and Bugie Corp under the direction of Sargent Phillips and had a keen interest in auto mechanics and industrial shop. These acquired skills would serve Joe will later in life with his home improvement projects and his employment as an Automobile Mechanic and Contractor. Joe was very patriotic and loved and served his country willing with honor. After completing basic training in the US Army, Joe became a paratrooper and then later a member of the “Special Forces Greer Beret”. During this time, Joe met and married Beverly A. Henderson in Pittsburgh, Pa in 1961. Joe, Beverly and the children were well traveled as a military family. While fighting in the “Battle of Hue”, Joe was briefly captured as a prisoner of war while serving in Vietnam and was rescued by a Special Force Unit in 1968. Joe went on to receive an honorable discharge from the US Army. In his spare time, Joe had an array of hobbies that he enjoyed. He always loved a good card game and a challenging chess match. Joe had a deep passion for riding motorcycles and spending time with family and friends. In later years, he really enjoyed his weekly bingo games. On July 12, 2018 Joe Ben Gant went to join a greater Army of Angels with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In addition to his parents, Joe Nathan and Beatrice Gant, he is also preceded in death by Beverly and his brother, Larry T. Gant. He leaves to mourn children, Terrance R., Joe L. Gant, Kimberly Williams, Jeremy Conley, Angelina Foster, Joel D. Gant; and Asia Crumpton; sisters, Bessie Gant, Denis Leurscn (husband, Andy) and crystal Gant; brothers, Kenneth Gant (wife, Helen), Vincent Gant, Derwin Gant and Rodney Goodwin of South Carolina. Joe also leaves to mourn a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, friends, and acquaintances.
