Janet Renee Harris (nee Fleming), beloved daughter, mother, sister, and pillar of her community, peacefully passed away on July 3, 2024, in Pittsburgh, PA. Born on December 25, 1956, in Saint Petersburg, Florida, to the late William Fleming (1989) and Ruby Weathers, Janet's family deeply feels her absence. From her formative years in Saint Petersburg and Hyannis Port, MA, to her vibrant life in Pittsburgh, Janet touched countless hearts with her warmth and kindness.
A graduate of Fifth Avenue High School, Janet embarked on a fulfilling career in nursing at Kane Hospital, where her compassionate care and dedication touched countless lives. She married her beloved husband, Anthony Harris Sr., in 1977, and together they nurtured five children, fostering a home filled with love, laughter, and lifelong memories. Anthony preceded her in death in 1989.
Known affectionately as "Ms. J," "Nana", "Momma J", "J-Bird", Janet's, magnetic personality and impeccable fashion sense illuminated every room she entered. She was the "Life of the Party, She possessed a rare gift for speaking her mind with honesty and grace, endearing her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Janet was a devoted advocate for her family, who held a special place in her heart, and for her community, where she devoted time to organizing clean-up drives and community events that brought neighbors together and beautified their surroundings.
Janet's unwavering faith in God was the cornerstone of her life. She found solace and joy in her church family at Deliverance Baptist Church, where her warm smile and welcoming spirit uplifted those around her. Her favorite gospel songs, including "Moving Down in My Heart" by Esther Smith and
"Never Would Have Made It" by Marvin Sapp, resonated deeply with her faith and spiritual journey.
Janet Renee Harris leaves behind a rich legacy of compassion, strength, and community spirit. She is survived by her children: Yata Fleming, Shemeka Fleming, Charon Fleming (Trina), Anthony Fleming, and Demetrous Fleming (Sophia); and in loving memory of her son Kalif Fleming. Also survived by her brothers: Curtis Fleming (Marie), Burnam Fleming (Natalie, and in loving memory of Emory Fleming (Rhonda), Hadeed Muhammud (Eborra); her sisters: Contonia Fleming (in loving memory of Darryl Parrish) and Alicia Morgan; cherished grandchildren, Kalif, Sage, Anfernee, Landon, Demetrius Jr.,
Mariah, Rikiyah, Anthony Jr., Asya,
Charon Jr., Josiah,
Keyshawn, Steffan, Jayseon, and Harlem, Christian, Christopher, Christiauna, Christina, cherished great grandchildren Aerie and Jaide and a wide circle of relatives, friends, god-children, and neighbors who were touched by her kindness, generosity, and infectious zest for life.
