Jan Ella Adams Obituary

Jan Ella Adams was born May 22, 1969, the youngest of eight children to the late Thomas E. Adams, Sr and Geneva Brown Adams. She departed from this life on August 26, 2025, peacefully at home, ending a long, hard-fought battle with cancer.

Jan accepted the Lord as Savior around the age of twelve while attending a Sunday School class taught by her sister, Joy, at the Warren United Methodist Church. She grew up with a heart of service and a desire to help the disadvantaged, which directed her educational and professional pursuits.

Despite becoming a young mother while still attending high school, she was determined to be a good mother and pursue her dreams. Jan graduated from Sacred Heart High School and pursued an associate degree from Bradford Business School in 1988. With a little encouragement from her sister, she continued her educational pursuit while working a full-time job. She graduated from Carlow College in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and later a Master of Science Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Point Park College in 2008.

Jan held several positions working with troubled youth in the juvenile system. She worked as a Child Care Worker in Shuman Detention Center, a Probation Officer and a Supervisor in Juvenile Court. She later worked as a Program Specialist for Main Stay, an organization that offered daily living support to individuals with intellectual disabilities. After several years working in the field and with another nudge, this time from her son Ryan, she was challenged to start her own business. In 2017, the journey to operate a residential facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities began. Thus, the birth of Soul Care Life Services, Inc. Along with her partners and encouragers, she lived her goal of “Touching Lives Daily”.

One of Jan’s greatest pleasures was to travel. She started very young, taking road trips with her sister and son every summer to different cities to visit amusement parks and beaches. After a time, the trips progressed from cities to different states, then countries. She has experienced every type of travel, from cruises to international travel. Two of her favorite places to walk in the sands of the beach are Riviera Maya in Mexico and Montego Bay, Jamaica, where she had an annual reservation.

Jan will be missed deeply. She is preceded in death by her brother Guy and leaves behind to cherish her memory her son Ryan, her sisters, Yvonne, Karen, Cynthia (Joy), Kim and Gaylynn, her brother Thomas Jr. and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and friends.
