Howard Van Supples Jr. was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Arnetta Mae Supples and the late Howard Van Supples. He was the second born of five children.
Howard, affectionately known as “Howie”, grew up in the Garfield area of Pittsburgh,Pennsylvania. After graduating from Peabody High School, he enlisted in the United States Airforce where he worked as an Aircraft and Engineer Mechanic. Following an Honorable Discharge from the Airforce, Howard returned home and obtained employment at Port Authority Transit where he worked as bus driver. Being the great driver that he was, Howard later became a driver for Yellow Cab Company, and retired some years after working for Veterans Taxi.
Family was very important to Howard. He would spend a great deal of time with his, mother, sisters and brothers-in-law. Howard was a father figure to his sisters. He always made sure that his mother and sisters were ALWAYS good! He enjoyed spoiling his nieces with gifts and daily trips to the pool in the summer. Howard had a huge interest in sports and could always be seen involved in a pick game with his friends. He loved music and dancing. Howard spent his free time in Carnegie Library. Books and learning were his passion.
Howard is preceded in death: Antoinette Supples, his sister. He leaves to mourn his mother, Arnetta Mae Supples (Silver Spring, MD), three children: Leon Grinage, Vernee Brock, and Howard Supples III, three sisters, Dorine Supples (Alexandria, VA), Denise Supples (Richmond, VA), Renee Supples (Coraopolis, PA), nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren, aunts, uncles, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
