Horace Ricardo Scott
Horace Ricardo Scott, 70, departed this life Thursday, June 10, 2021 at his residence in Pittsburgh. He was born, the second of seven children, December 10, 1950 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Edward M. and Elizabeth M. Scott.
He attended Wilkinsburg borough schools and graduated from Wilkinsburg High in 1968. He worked for the city of Pittsburgh for many years before retiring in 2003 to dote on family and friends. At home he indulged his gift for cooking and boasted openly of his flare with the pig’s “wrinkled steak.”
Ricky, as he was known to his siblings, but as Scotty to his devoted wife and friends, was also a fan of athletics, from baseball, to basketball, to football, to boxing, to horseback riding. He had an abiding love of the Steelers and an undying admiration for Muhammad Ali.
He was a man of purest heart and softer feelings, which inclined him to easy weeping and hearty laughter in equal measure. He cried when Quasimodo died in The Hunchback of Notre Dame and he laughed with bellyaching glee every time he watched the Cowardly Lion jump through the window in fear of the Wizard of Oz.
He nurtured a life-long love of mid-fifties do wop and the greasy jazz of chittlin’ circuit, Hammond B three organ groove meisters like Jimmy Smith and Richard “Groove “ Holmes. In his youth he even played the guitar to amuse himself with fancies of darkened rooms, clinking glasses and the hushed adoration of all his “dream-time” fans.
He was preceded in death by his extraordinary parents and his youngest (most handsome) brother, James Brian Scott who passed, untimely, in 1986.
He is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-four years, Gail; one dazzling daughter, Katrinka Frazier; three shining sons, John Frazier, Jamie Frazier and Horace Ricardo Scott II; two sweet sisters, Pamela and Julia; three “bad” brothers, Edward, Duane and Kafala; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; a host of loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
