Hattie Richardson Scott was born on May 3rd, 1932, in Jackson, Alabama, to the union of Callie Robinson Richardson and Leo Richardson. At the tender age of three, she found comfort in the Word of the Lord, often seeking out anyone who would read the Bible to her. That early hunger fo the Word grew into a lifelong relationship with God, and Hattie became a devoted student of the Bible.
In 1949, Hattie relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she would build a life rooted in faith, family, and service. She was a woman of deep conviction and unwavering love, pouring her spirit into everyone she encountered. Whether you knew her for five minutes or fifty years, Hattie had a way of making you feel seen, loved, and uplifted. Her door was always open, her table never empty, and her prayers never ceased. Hattie was a nurturer by nature a giver, a listener, and a sharer of wisdom. She dedicated herself to raising generations of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with strength, grace, and the Word of God. Her home was filled with warmth, laughter, and gospel music, a true sanctuary of love.
Hattie also had a strong work ethic and took pride in providing for her family. She worked for many years as a baker at Western Psychiatric Hospital and held various other part-time jobs throughout her life, always doing what needed to be done with humility and grace.
She leaves behind a legacy of faith, compassion, and perseverance. Her family and friends will remember her not just for the life she lived, but for the many lives she helped shape.
Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, Callie and Leo Richardson her sons: Anthony Lee Scott Jt (Peter) and Joseph Scott her sisters, Lucille Davis, Maybell McClain, Albertha Council, and Arelia Pritchett-Craig; her brothers, Leo Richardson, Jr. and Marshall Richardson; and several other beloved family members who now welcome her into eternal rest.
She is survived by Brother: Frank (Shirley) Richardson (Jackson, AL) Sister: Joyce Cassell (Pittsburgh, PA) her children: Frank Scott (Pittsburgh, PA); 13 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; many loving nieces and nephews; a host of extended family and friends; and her cherished church family.
Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit lives on in the lessons she taught, the prayers she whispered, and the love she gave so freely.
