Gregory Mark Reed Sr. was born on December 20, 1963, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to his loving parents, Robert Reed Sr. and Clara Reed. From his earliest days, Gregory carried a boldness that made him impossible to forget!
Gregory grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and went on to graduate from Penn Hills High School with the Class of 1983. Gregory had a deep love for the food and culinary arts. He worked in several restaurants throughout his life, bringing his signature passion to every kitchen he stepped into. Many who knew him remember his time at KFC in Homewood, where he became a familiar presence. Cooking was truly something he was passionate about.
Those who were fortunate enough to know Gregory will tell you he was one of a kind. He was known far and wide for his bold personality and his colorful way of expressing himself, never one to hold back a word, a laugh, or an honest opinion. He lived life on his own terms, with a spirit that was unforgettable. Gregory’s memory will live on in the hearts of everyone who called him friend, brother, and father.
On March 9, 2026, Gregory took his final breath surrounded by the love of his family at UPMC Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh. He departed this world the same way he lived in it, with his family by his side.
Gregory was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Robert Reed Sr. and Clara Reed. He is survived by his two cherished sons, Gregory Reed Jr. (Davina Reed) and Mark Reed (Megan Reed), his grandchildren Finnian Gregory Reed and Ava Marie Reed, his siblings, Rainney Mack, Robert Reed Jr., Phillip Reed (Lana Reed), Gerald Reed (Paulette Reed), Dawn McDuffie (Steve McDuffie), Vanetta Reed (Chuck Mehalik) and a beloved host of nieces and nephews who will carry his spirit forward.
