Grady Rufus Scott, was born on October 26,1958 to Neziline and Ernest Jacob Scott Sr. Grady was the eleventh child of twelve siblings. After standing strong against cancer, Grady silently departed his earthly body on Thursday, May 14, 2026 with his wife, Renee, by his side.

Grady grew up in the Hill District on Whiteside Road. He was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School System. He attended Herron Hill Middle School, Fifth Avenue High School where he ran track, and graduated from Brashear High School in 1977.

With the encouragement of Anderson Little, a radio personality and family friend, he began playing the guitar. He joined with his brother Ray, and played alongside his friends in the band, The Deltones, which was highly popular at that time!

Grady, with The Deltones, performed at many proms, weddings, colleges, universities, and country clubs. They also performed at the Annual Black-Nic Celebration in South Park and was a regular on the ‘City Wide ShowMobile’ throughout the city. The band participated in many of the ‘Battle-of-the-Bands’ contests. The 1976 winner of ‘The Super M’ Band Contest was the Deltones, and they were awarded studio time and $1500. That was a big deal back then! They also opened for national recording artists- The Ohio Players, B.T. Express, and New Birth, to name a few.

Grady was a committed and dedicated worker. In April 1979, Grady started working for US Steel Chemicals on Neville Island, remaining there through multiple company name changes; last working for ALTA Performance Chemicals as a Polyester Resin Operator A. Affectionately known as Shady Grady, Paps, Dad, and Babe, he enjoyed life and was known for his enthusiasm and passion for bowling, playing the numbers, the casino, and dancing! He will always be remembered for cutting a rug at family gatherings when ‘Da Butt’ or the Detroit Hustle came on. Grady kept his competitive edge in bowling, participating in out-of-state and in-state tournaments, and was a team member of the New Great Valley Bowling Leage and the Spares Gone Wild Bowling Team among others. Grady had a blessed life and thanked the Lord every day.

Grady was united in marriage to Renee Smith on May 31, 2008. He had two children, Jennifer and DeAndre, and through this union, gained bonus children, LaTricia and LaKeisha.
