Obituary

GLORIA MOSLEY SLOAN WAS BORN FEB.23, 1932 TO THE LATE TEANNA AND TARRY PATE.  DURING HER TODDLER YEARS SHE BECAME THE STEP DAUGHTER AFTER THE UNION OF TEANNA AND THADDEUS MOSLEY SR.  SHE GREW UP IN BRIDGEVILLE.  SHE GRADUATED FROM BRIDGEVILLE HIGH SCHOOL.  SHE LATER ATTENDED THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH. SHE ALSO ATTENDED AND GRADUATED FROM THE HARDY BIBLE SCHOOL.

IN 1955 SHE MARRIED EARNEST THOMAS SLOAN SR. AND REMAINED MARRIED TO HIM UP TO THE TIME OF HIS TRANSITION.  TO THIS UNION TWO CHILDREN WERE BORN.  DEBRA LYNN AND EARNEST THOMAS JR.  SHE WAS A DEVOTED AND LOVING WIFE.  SHE WAS AN EXCEPTIONAL MOTHER.  SHE BELIEVED IN HER MARRIAGE TIL DEATH DID THEY PART. 

GLORIA WORKED AT SHADYSIDE HOSPITAL.  FROM THERE SHE WENT TO PRUDENTIAL INSURANCE CO.  LATER SHE BECAME EMPLOYED AND EVENTUALLY RETIRED FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH WORKING IN THE DEANS OFFICE OF THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION AFTER 40 YEARS OF FAITHFUL SERVICE.

GLORIA ACCEPTED CHRIST IN HER LIFE AT A VERY YOUNG AGE ALONGSIDE WITH HER MOTHER AND GRANDMOTHER, UNDER THE LATE BISHOP GORDON E. VAUGHN.  SHE BEGAN USHERING IN 1950 AT 35 MILLER STREET CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST AND USHERED UNTIL HER HEALTH RESTRICTED HER FROM USHERING.  SHE THEN BECAME AN HONORARY USHER.  SHE CONTINUED TO COME TO CHURCH EACH SUNDAY IN HER UNIFORM.  SHE TAUGHT YWCC, WOMANS SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS.  SHE BECAME SUNDAY SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENT, SANG IN THE CHOIR, AND VOLUNTEERED AT THE CHURCHS’ DAYCARE.  HER FAVORITE SCRIPTURE IS, PROVERBS 3:5-6 “TRUST IN THE LORD WITH ALL THINE HEART, AND LEAN NOT UNTO THINE OWN UNDERSTANDING. IN ALL THY WAYS ACKNOWLEDGE HIM AND HE SHALL DIRECT THY PATHS.”  HER FAVORITE SONG IS “GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS”. SHE VOLUNTEERED MANY YEARS AT THE MONROEVILLE MALL MINISTRY.  MOMMY LOVED TO TALK!!  SHE WAS A MEMBER OF THE “BUSY BEE MISSION GROUP” FOR OVER 60 YEARS.  HER FAVORITE QUOTE WAS, “I WILL NOT BE SILENT ANY MORE!!”  SHE LOVED HER PANCAKES, SAUSAGE, AND COFFEE.  SHE ATE THEM every day; SOMETIMES TWICE A DAY AND SHE LOVED KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN.  

SHE HAS ALWAYS MADE AN EXAMPLE OF LIVING A SAVED, SANCTIFIED, AND HOLY GHOST FILLED LIFE TO HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS.  SHE HAS BEEN STEADFAST AND UNMOVEABLE TO THE WORD OF GOD.  SHE’S ALWAYS HAD A SMILE.  SHE BELIEVED IN AND LOVED HER FAMILY.  SHE HAD NO STEP FAMILY! SHE WAS LOVINGLY KNOWN AS “GIGI” TO ALL HER GRAND AND GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. THEY WERE ALL HER GIGI’S.

SHE LEAVES TO CHERISH HER MEMORY TWO CHILDREN: DEBRA LYNN (JAMES – WHOM SHE ACKNOWLEDGE AS HER OLDER SON, NOT SON IN LAW) AND EARNEST T.JR. (PONCHO). EIGHT GRANDCHILDREN: DUANE C. CARTER SR.(RHIANNA), LATESHA N RICHARD(ROBERT), TIMOTHY D.SLOAN, NATASHA M. SLOAN, MESHA C. SLOAN, JANAY A. HAWKINS(JAMESII), JANEEN A. MCNEAL(PHILLIP SR.), NATHAN YOUNG(AMANDA).   SEVENTEEN GREAT-GRAND CHILDREN: RIONTE, D.J., KEYARA, TARYNN, ROBERT JR., DANYE, DE’SHEYLA, TAYLOR, JAMES (JAMMER) III, KAYLA, ISAIAH, XAVIER, OWEN, BROOKLYN, PJ. NENA, AND JAYSON (THE BOSS).  TWO GREAT-GREAT GRANDSONS, CHRIS AND CAMERON.  ONE SISTER: KATHERYN MOSLEY TURNER.  ONE BROTHER: THADDEUS MOSLEY JR.  FOUR SISTER IN LAWS MARY ASTON, MARTHA DIXON, OLETHA SLOAN, ISABELLE SLOAN (AFFECTIONATELY REFERRED TO AS HER SISTERS).  THREE BROTHER-IN LAWS (GEORGE, LEMUEL, LANCEY), A HOST OF NIECES AND NEPHEWS AND FRIENDS.  HER 1ST LOVE- 2502 1ST CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST AND FAITH CENTER CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST CHURCH FAMILIES.
