Gilbert A. Tyler Jr., affectionately known as Pa, was the devoted husband of 50 years to Juanita E. Tyler. He was the only child born to the late Gilbert A. Tyler Sr. and Theresa L. Tyler, on January 2 1931 in Pittsburgh PA. Gilbert was raised on the East Side of town where he attended primary school. As a teen, he attended and graduated from George Westinghouse High school. While at Westinghouse he was a part of various clubs including, but not limited to the Senior Swimming Club and the Senior Swim Team.
Upon graduation, he attended Tennessee State University where he swam collegiately, specializing in the Breast stroke. Gilbert left College after three years to work at the Post Office, and remained employed for 30+ years before taking an early retirement at the age of 55.
Gilbert accepted the Lord at a young age and was raised in Bethany Baptist Church, where his Father served as a Deacon, and his mother as a Greeter. Over time, Gilbert found his place as a Sexton and remained a faithful member.
In his later years he attended church as often as he was able to, in person or online. He was a man of few words, but he led his family through his actions, making sure that faith, family, and fellowship were the tenants his family lived by.
Isaiah 43: 18-19
“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”
My Reflection is for us to leave the past behind, and let’s embrace the new things that God has already promised us, should we just follow him.
He is loved, and will be missed tremendously by those he loved. Gilbert will leave behind to cherish his memory: His wife Juanita. His children: Adria (Gerald), Lucretia, Hope (Dewayne), Chay (Donnese), Jason (Natalie), and Marc (Cheyenne). Grandchildren: Gavin, Kamryn, Jordan, Aaliyah, Kiana, Brea, Nyah, Maya, Chayni, Chay Jr., Marjani, Triste, Jael, Marc Jr., and Cole.
