Gilbert Broxie Sr.

Gilbert Broxie Sr. of Pittsburgh Pa. fell asleep in death on Saturday, January 23rd at the age of 93.  He was born on June 14, 1927 and was the son of the late William and Amber ReidBroxie.    Gilbert grew up in Lawrenceville and attended Schenley high school.  In his senior year he was drafted into the air force where he served for five years.  After that time, he met the love his life, Margaret Jackson.  They were married in Marchof 1954 and enjoyed nearly 66 years of marriage.  From that union, they had one son, Gilbert Jr.  He was employed as an electrician and airplane mechanic at the Greater Pittsburgh airport for 36 years before retiring in 1982.

Other than his marriage and family, the highlight of his life was being baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in June of 1985. He had the privilege of serving as a Ministerial Servant and was very active in the ministry until he suffered a stroke in 2012 that greatly affected his ability to communicate.  He was known for his quiet demeanor and was a loving father and husband.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers – Wesley, Richard, and Machon, his sisters Ida May and Nellie Baldwin.  He is survived by his wife and caregiver, Margaret, his son, Gilbert Jr. (wife Lorraine), his grandson, Aaron (wife Katoya), and 3 great-grandchildren, Jalen, Daniel and Kiyah Broxie. He is also survived by his sister Gladys Broxie of Novi Michigan as well as many nieces and nephews.   Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there will not be a viewing however , a memorial service will be performed at a future date.
