George Spencer Love “Porgie” Frye, Sr. was born on March 15, 1946, to the late Ethel Mae Denny and Bertrand Davis Frye, Sr. in Pittsburgh, PA
He peacefully went home to be with the lord on June 1, 2023.
Porgie was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School System. He was raised on Sugar Top in the upper Hill District. He lived his life to the fullest and did it his way. He learned valuable lessons while he was incarcerated and cherished his freedom by becoming a productive member of society. He was a family man that did any and everything for his family.
In 1977 he married Georgia *Wendy* Frye and became a father to Wanda Harden and Derrick Winfield. Later he met Denise Johnson, and they had three children Porsha Johnson-Frye and George Spencer Love “Porgie” Johnson-Frye, Jr. Claudette Johnson Frye
Porgie was the owner of LA West Beauty Salon in East Liberty where he was well respected by the community and his employees. Then later he spent his last 10 years working at B. Fields Motors. He was an amazing singer and piano player. He loved all types of music, especially R&B, Jazz, and gospel.
Porgie was the "LIFE OF THE PARTY”, and he was a sharp dresser who kept up with the latest fashions. You would see him in a suit with his fur coats looking like he just stepped out of G.Q. magazine or sporting his Ike Wear. He also loved to represent his Pittsburgh Steelers Gear.
Porgie loved his children, grandchildren, and his fur babies.
Porgies’ sense of humor was priceless. Family reunions, parties and events were Porgies’ favorite things to do. HE LOVED DANCING WITH HIS DAUGHTER PORSHA.
Porgie was baptized at St. Luke Baptist Church as a child and became a member of First Church of God in Christ in his adult years. He loved the lord and was saved by the blood of Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Mae Denny, Bertrand Davis Frye, Sr., and Ellsworth Denny, one brother, Bertrand Davis "Goocher* Frye, Jr., three sisters, Sylvia Barnett, Evelyn "Peaches* Smith, Marjorie Robinson, one nephew, Dwight "Tony' Baskins, Sr., stepdaughter.

He leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Audrey Fielder of Harrisburg, P.A., one brother, Joseph "Uncle Joe" Sims, daughter, Porsha Johnson-Frye, son, George Love Spencer "Porgie" Johnson-Frye, daughter, Claudette Johnson-Frye, daughter, Wanda Harden, daughter, Derrick, son, Leonard Harris, stepson (Mother Renee Harris), stepsons, Darnell Clark, Derrick Clark, Daryl Clark, and stepdaughter Derica McCleod and his companion and love Donna Butler. Grandchildren: Ladarrica Winfield, Shaylynn Davis, Dominique Poole, Dashaya, Wayne, Dominguez, Alique, Azah, Lorin, Rey’Quan Frye, Shawn Frye, Sarodge Frye, Keivon Moore, SaRiya Frye, Saige Frye, Samir Frye, great-grandson Enzo Frye, nephew, Tyrone "Waldo" Baskins, nephew, Raymond Lining, nephew, Ricardo "Ricky" Barnett, niece, Cheryl A. Martin, niece, Candice "Cakes" Woodson, nephew, Ashley "Brotha Ash" Woodson, niece, Stacey Barnett-Germany, niece, Sylvia "Missy" Jackson and a host of family and friends.
