George Francis Gans was born on May 23, 1955. He was the third child born to Reverend Albert and Barbara Gans. He grew up and was educated in the Wilkinsburg School District and was active in sports winning the State Championship in Wrestling and was also the Bass Drummer for the High School Band. He graduated in 1977. George was described by his niece as an Urbane Farmer because of his love for nature. He loved animals (rescued a Tiger from a sewer). He also loved plants and music of all kinds. He had a very casual nature about himself including in his clothing. His love for people led to working in Nursing Facilities and he was employed at St. Francis Hospital as a Mental Aide until they closed. That is where his relationship with Mary Alice Flanders Gans started. After the closing of St. Francis, George got a job at the Oakland VA where he was employed until his demise.
On August 5, 2022, George departed this life. He was preceded in death by his father, Reverend Albert Gans; sister, Michele, and nephew, Gregory. He leaves behind a loving wife of thirty-plus years, Mary Alice Flanders Gans; mother, Barbara Gans; three brothers, Elder Albert (Sharon), Gregory, Anthony (Adelaide); two sisters, Reverend Renee Rose and Marcie; and a host of family and friends.
