(Gary) William Patterson

William Gary Patterson was born May 7, 1955, the third of four cherished children of Joyce and the late Edward Patterson.  He was affectionately known by his middle name.

Gary lived his entire life in Wilkinsburg, the community he loved.  He was a 1973 graduate of Wilkinsburg High School.  He played offensive tackle for the Wilkinsburg Tigers and was an enthusiastic heavy weight wrestler.  Following high school Gary became a certified auto mechanic through Rosedale TechnicaL Institute.  He also pursued a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Clarion University.

A proud and dedicated professional, Gary committed twenty years of his life as an environmental specialist as he worked for various health care systems and businesses in Pittsburgh.

An avid sports fan, Gary was passionate about football and loved what he called the Pittsburgh "Sports Trinity: " The Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.  From his childhood, he loved wrestling.  His professional wrestlers were Johnny Valiant and the late Bruno Sammartino.  Ironically, Gary's death would follow that of Sammartino by only days.  Gary was compassionate, kind-hearted and a faithful contributor to many charities including St. Jude Children's Research Center.  Gary had his own health challenges, but they never hindered him from laughing, joking and smiling.

Last Wednesday, (April 25th), Gary suddenly departed his earthly life and entered into eternal rest with the Lord.  His devoted family includes his loving mother, Joyce L. Russ Patterson, two brothers: Lowell (Gail) and Edward R., a sister, Cynthia Reynolds; five nieces and nephews: Charmaine Turner, Lowell Patterson, Jr., Brandie Patterson, Cheree and Shana Reynolds and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.
