Frederick Hammonds, called Fred by his brothers and Freddie by his sisters, passed away peacefully from this life into the next while at Shadyside Hospital’s ICU unit on Saturday, January 17, 2026. He was surrounded by loving family members. Frederick was the sixth child born on November 6, 1952, to the late Leon and Ora Hammonds.
Fred/Freddie grew up in Pittsburgh, PA and attended Larimer Elementary School and graduated from Westinghouse High School. After high school he worked for a few years before he decided to follow in his oldest brother’s footsteps and enlist in the United States Air Force. Therefore, on January 20, 1975, he was military bound and served 8 years and 4 months achieving the rank of Staff Sergent, working as a Staff Support Administration Specialist. He was honorably discharged from service on August 8, 1983, and returned to Pittsburgh, PA and started working as a state employee until his retirement.
Frederick is preceded in death by his parents Leon and Ora Hammonds, brothers, Robert Earl Hammonds and Eugene Hammonds. He leaves to cherish his memory brother, Lynn Hammonds Jr. (Cece), sisters, Morine Hammonds Peeler (Michael), Linda Ann Hammonds, and Tracey Edna France (Jessie), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
