Frankie M (Simpson) Davis

Frankie Mae Davis was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and was the only child of Rosie Lee Thomas and James Frank Brown. She gained her wings and took flight after a blessed life of 89 years.

Frankie grew up in North Braddock and Homewood. She accepted the LORD as her personal savior and was baptized at Bethany Baptist Church as a young child. She was a member of the church youth choir. Later as an adult, she became a member of Sixth Mount Zion Baptist Church and served on the Usher Board.

While in high school, Frankie met the love of her life, Ralph Davis, at a dance at the YMCA in Homewood. Soon after high school, they married and from this union came three children. Their favorite pastimes together were going shopping and dining at Eat’n Park. She also loved spending time with dear family and friends.

Frankie worked at the University of Pittsburgh as a switchboard operator for 26 years. She enjoyed her job and made many friends there. She also got her sister-in-law, Junetta Bankston, the same position at Pitt and they worked together for several years. She was able to take early retirement from Pitt for health reasons.

Frankie loved reading and she had a large book collection. She also loved to sew and made many outfits for herself. Traveling with family was a favorite pastime. A memorable trip was when she went to Las Vegas with her daughter and grandson.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 69 years, Ralph Davis, Jr.; their three children, son Ralph Davis Jr. of Pittsburgh, son Gary Davis of Pittsburgh, and daughter Kimberly Davis of Atlanta, GA; 3 grandchildren Ebony Starks (Greg), Lamar Davis (Sharnay) and Stephen Dalton (DeOnna); 7 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews
