Frances Harrison Obituary

Frances Lucille Harrison (Baker) began her journey of life on Aug 6, 1939, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Marion and Alan Baker. She was proceeded in death by her loving husbands, Robert D. Frederick and Edward Harrison, Jr., and her son, Robert D. Frederick, Jr. Fran peacefully departed this life on September 25, 2023, whileat home.

Fran was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School Districtincluding Fulton Elementary and Peabody High School where she graduated in 1957. As a young wife and mother, Frances was a dedicated homemaker and business owner of a neighborhood corner store in Pittsburgh’s Homewood area. After she became widowed, she spent many years working as an administrative supervisor for Alma Illery Medical Center located in Homewood, PA.

After she found love again, she married the love of her life, Edward Harrison, Jr., they became a blended family filled with much love, happiness, and welcomed another daughter, Yana Marie Harrison. Fran was an exceptionalhomemaker and made sure her home was a center of peace and joy for her family. She was gifted in many areas including her love of cooking and holiday baking.  But she was also an excellent seamstress and could create a dress without using a pattern and wear it the same night.  In recent years she worked as an administrative assistantfor the Boy Scouts of America, and the Kingsley Association. In more recent years she found much joy as a school bus monitor with the A. J. Meyers Bus Company until her retirement in 2013.

Fran was saved by the grace of God at an early age and became a member of St. James, AME Church in Pittsburgh’s Larimer neighborhood for many years before moving her membership and joining Mount Ararat Baptist Church in the mid-90’s.

Fran was a gentle and quiet natured person who was protective of her family while very nurturing. She was private, but always good natured and willing to share a laugh.

Fran leaves to cherish her memory, her beloved daughters, Denise Hughes (Frederick) and Yana Marie Harrison, her son-in-law, Rev. Dr. Gary L. Hughes, her beautiful granddaughter Alisha Marie Frederick, three great-grandchildren, Justice, Sadie, and Eddie, her loving daughter-in-law, Cynthia Frederick (Henderson), and a host of relatives and friends. Frances’ family is planning a Celebration of Life memorial service in the coming weeks ahead. Service details will be available shortly.

Fran was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who strived for love, unity, and Christianity in her home. More importantly, she loved the Lord, and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
