Floradine McDowell Turner was born August 11, 1942, in Gulfport Mississippi. She was the daughter of the late Annie Mae Barlow and Alonzo McDowell and youngest sister to Alma Jean Hughes.
She left Mississippi at a young age and went to school in Tallulah, Louisiana where she and her friends made an music album called, The Blue Hens.
Floradine left Tallulah and moved to Chicago, New York City, and finally resided in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where she met and married the late George E. Ross with whom she had two children, Yolanda R. Hazel and Theodore Ross. Floradine also raised two nieces that were very dear to her, Valerie Ann Jones and Shelly Ann McDowell.
Floradine was the life of the party, and she loved to help others. If you were hungry, she fed you and if you needed shelter, she would take you in. She was a joy to everyone she met and always kept a smile. She loved to sing; dance and she had a very beautiful voice. Her favorite songs was "Build Your Dreams", "Sweet 16" by B.B King and "Loving Testimony" by the Williams Bros.
Floradine was a true believer in God and accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She remained faithful even in illness.
On May 11, 2025, Floradine went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
