Everett Burton Obituary

Everett Joseph Burton was born January 27,1952, to the late Elder Joseph and Louise Elizabeth Burton, in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.

He was educated at Madison Elementary, Herron Hill Junior High and graduated Schenley. Everett played football as a left tackle, for

Schenley. He was the only player at that time that started all three years in high school, which was rare.

In his senior year, he made All-City. His nickname Bubba Smith came from the famous professional player Bubba Smith. He also had perfect attendance at Schenley,

graduating in June 1971.

Everett was drafted and serviced in the Air Force obtaining the rank of Airman First Class. He completed air traffic controller school.

After returning to civilian life he worked in patient care at Mayview State Hospital, in addition to the family business, Burton's Recreation Parlor.

Bubba was unbeatable at any type of pool game. Years of working at the poolroom gave him ample time to hone his skills.

For well over twenty years Bub has been an active member of the Narcotics Anonymous community. One of the jobs he took pride in was making the coffee for meetings.

According to him, no one could make coffee as well as he did. Everett J. Burton was a pillar in the N.A community.

He was constantly willing to provide support to individuals anyway possible. Everett will be remembered for his quick wit, his sense of humor and a kind heart.

He always had a great sense of style and a taste for quality things. His signature trademark was the various unique pieces of silver jewelry,

which he always wore.

Everett is survived by his loving sister, Mrs. Brenda E. Shakoor (Dawud, deceased). Nieces, Marie Farook, Sakina A Ansari-Wilson, Hadiyah A. Shakoor.

Nephew, Omar Y. Shakoor (Zarinah), great-nieces, Yara A. and Anayah S. Shakoor. He will also be missed by a host of cousins and friends.
