Evelyn Battle Burke entered her eternal rest on Tuesday, April 26, 2023. She was born in LaGrange Georgia on January 21, 1940, to Mr Charlie and Mrs (Lovie) Battle. In 1954 Evelyn, her mother, her sister Irene and four children later moved to Pittsburgh Pennsylvania where they made it their home.
Evelyn entered into a union with James w Burke Sr. in Pittsburgh, Pa where Evelyn's life was fulfilled in being a wife, homemaker, and caring mother.
As a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, as well as great great-grandmother; Evelyn's life was devoted to her three daughters and all her grandchildren. Evelyn also found fulfillment in celebrating family, cooking, and enjoying and living her life as she wanted.
She became a member of Good Samaritan Baptist Church where she served as a member of the nurses along with Francis Harper, Millie Burgwin, and Emma McFarland.
She also was the Sargent at Arms for the Resident Council Board of H.A.C.P. as well as taking part in the H.U.D. County Wide Training for all Resident Council Board Members.
Evelyn was the baby of the ten children, and she was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs Charlie (Lovie) Battle Sr.; her husband James w Burke Sr., son Kenneth James Burke, and all of her nine siblings Cleveland (Sarah) Battle, Ruth (Jamie) Mitchell, Agnes (Sylvester) Caslin, Lucille (Johnny) Lovelace, Charley (Ruby)Battle, Irene (Alton) Nelson, Betty (William) Bone, Robert (Ora) Battle, and Leila Battle.
Evelyn Burke leaves to forever cherish her memory three daughters, Mrs. Angela (Reverend Erwin)Harris, Mrs. Lydia (Mark) Henderson, and Mrs. Janet (Gregory) Woodson, all from Pittsburgh, PA, and five grandchildren, Mrs. Shayla (Aaron) Bryant, from Charlotte, N.C.; Mr. Dale (Ivy) Woodson Sr, Mr. Michael (Cassie) Woodson Sr, both from Pittsburgh, Pa, Mr Enrique (Shamea) Burke Sr, from Ruskin, FL and Mr. Robert Burke, Meadville, PA.
