Essie Mae Googer was born October 19, 1919, to the late Mr. Carlton and Willie Mae Henderson of Atlanta, Georgia.
She attended public school in Atlanta, Georgia, and Booker T. Washington High School. She was united in marriage to Henry Moses in 1938, to their union one son, Henry Jr. was born.
Essie and her son Henry went to Pennsylvania to live in 1939 where she met and married William C. Googer some years later. He preceded her in death in 1972. They belonged to the St. Paul Baptist Church of Donora, Pennsylvania, where they sang in the choir together.

#92 Donora, PA and Omega Chapter Pittsburgh, PA. She returned to Georgia after her husband's death to care for her parents. She joined Andrews Chapel Church in Jonesboro, GA, where her parents were serving and served on the stewardess board serving communion. After her parents' death, Essie joined Wesley Chapel Church which was closer to her home. There she also served communion as a stewardess. She is now a member of Browns Hill Baptist Church of Monroe, Georgia.
She leaves to treasure in her memory one son, Henry Moses, Jr. (Darlene); grandchildren, Timothy Moses, Colleen Moses, Alishia Morrissette, Anita Tolliver; great-grandchildren, Robert, Leon, Todd, Jeremy, Brittani, Stettani, Alyssa, Calvin, Najee, Jonathon, and Frank; eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-great grandson, Kashton; and a host of family and friends.
