Edward Ben Yates Jr., (known as Eddie) to friends and family, was born to Mary Lee Bumpass, and Edward Ben Yates, Sr., on February 2, 1948, (a ground hogs day baby).
Eddie was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School System and graduated from Westinghouse High School with high honors in 1966.
After high school Eddie joined the United States Airforce, where as a Staff Sergeant serving his country, as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Repair Technician. He was honorably discharged in 1972.
Upon returning from his service to his country, Eddie enrolled in the University of Pittsburgh, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in the field of Economics/Urban Studies in 1975.
Eddie spent a good part of his life after the service as an insurance agent but later joined the Veterans Administration Hospital as an Environmental Service Worker, retiring in 2011.
Eddie was a phenomenal husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He enjoyed family gatherings. Eddie was a wise and smart individual with compassion for all whom he encountered during his tour of life on this earth.
He will be passionately missed by those who knew and loved him.
Eddie is survived by his spouse, Sandra Denise and her children (Michelle Smith, Clara Williams (Maurice), Veronica Johnson, William Johnson (Maisha), and David Johnson), his daughters Tenill Thomas (Charlie), and India Christian (Corey), from his previous marriage to Sharon Williams; his brothers and sisters Mary Harp/Muffy (Frank), Lelia Rosetta Walker, Robert Yates (Nancy), Danny Yates, and Henry Latin Yates (Tonya), and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, loving family members and friends.
