Edward Patterson Obituary

Edward Raymond Patterson, affectionately known as “Bay” by family and friends, quietly departed this life on Sunday, September 11, 2022.  Born to the union of Edward Lowell Patterson  and Joyce Louise (Russ) Patterson in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on December 16, 1953, he was 68 years old.  An outgoing and funny man, he was one of four siblings.

“Bay” graduated from Wilkinsburg High School in 1971 and received his bachelor's degree in accounting from Clarion State College.  He excelled in the sport of basketball and played on the Golden Eagles Basketball Team where his teammates nick named him “Sweet Ed!” Over the years, he received numerous awards and accolades for his basketball talent.

His professional career included accounting positions with the H. J. Heinz Company, Del Monte Foods, Inc., Alcoa, and Filmet.

In his younger years, “Bay” was baptized at Central Baptist Church of Pittsburgh and later participated in the Sunshine Band, a Sunday School program at the Church of God In Christ. His mother says, he was a very loving son and was always there for her.  Sister, Cyndee, recalls “Bay” was always happy and enjoyed doing anything for anyone.  He was loving, caring, and had the patience of Job.    Sister-in-law, Gail, reminisces about some of the best times he spent fishing with his dad and brothers…especially preparing for the opening day of trout season!

In addition to performing handyman chores and fixing-up cars, landscaping, gardening and cooking were among his favorite hobbies.  Daughter, Charmaine, will always remember his spontaneous sense of humor and knack for holiday grilling with family and friends.  A great food buffet – especially seafood –  was hard to resist, after which he’d proudly proclaim he was “full as a brick!.”  Upholding a long-time family tradition, he’d decorate their home for all major holidays inside and out.  Christmas was his favorite time of year!  And neighbors enjoyed all the festive decorations he put on display including the brightly lit pine tree and reindeer on the roof!  An avid Steelers fan, “Bay” rarely missed watching a televised game, hanging his Steelers flag on the front porch, and wearing team paraphernalia with a laugh and smile!

“Bay” loved his family and will be sorely missed.  He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Patterson and brothers Lowell and Gary Patterson. He is survived by his daughter, Charmaine Lee Turner, mother Joyce (Russ) Patterson, , sister Cynthia Patterson Reynolds, sister-in-law Gail Patterson; nephews: Lowell Anthony, Jr. (Lynell), Kayden Moore, and Austin Davis; nieces: Brandeis (Marcus) Davis, Sherre’ and Shana Reynolds, along with a host of extended family and friends.
