To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven (Ecclesiastes 3:1-12)
Edmonia Hamm, the oldest of nine children was born on April 29, 1931, in Presto, PA to the late James and Georgetta Hawkins. She had five brothers Ronald Hawkins of California and preceding her in death four brothers: James, Charles, Daniel, and Donald. Sisters Virginia Hawkins and Diane Thompson and preceding her in death Georgetta Hawkins.
Edmonia was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School System, graduating from Peabody High School.
Edmonia met and married the late George Hamm. To this union were born two sons: George and William. Six daughters: Georgetta, Patricia, Darlene, and Mona, preceding her in death Ruth and Kathleen.
Edmonia worked as an Administrative Assistant in the medical field for several doctors. She enjoyed working in this field using her inherent skills of love, kindness and patience as she assisted patients going through difficult times. However, her greatest love was her family! She enjoyed planning weekly Sunday meals and Holiday feasts as she had her family gatherings. Her family was her life, which is evident as she poured into the lives of her children and grandchildren with her love, special meals, and her talks about Jesus. Her extended family of friends also reaped the blessings of her wisdom and with her love of cooking as she generously shared her creative baked goodies and savory foods.
Edmonia made her final journey to Glory on April 30th, one hour and 10 minutes after her 93rd birthday. She was blessed to have spent her final days on earth with her cherished loved ones celebrating her birthday and then quietly passed on to glory. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, Georgetta (Charles), Patricia (Dennis), Darlene (Darrell), Mona; George, and William; Twenty-nine grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren; sisters Virginia Hawkins and Diane Thompson and brother Ronald Hawkins. She is greatly loved and will be missed!
