Diane C. (McMahon) Smart was born April 8, 1946, the second child of the late Odamell and Reverend Joseph A. McMahon. She peacefully gained her wings on Sunday, October 3, 2021
Diane was educated in the Penn Hills Public School District. Upon graduating from High School in 1964, she worked a few jobs before becoming employed with the United States Postal Service. Diane was a committed and faithful worker, but after 39 years of service, she retired in 2007. Part of her retirement life was being a member of the Retired Employees of the Pittsburgh Post Office (REPPO). Even after Diane became ill, she continued to attend luncheons and planned events with her retired colleagues. Diane was also a member of the Post Office Bowling League.
As a young girl, Diane accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. Under the ministry of her late father, Reverend McMahon, she studied the word and grew a stronger relationship with Christ. Later in life, Diane became a member of Covenant Church of Pittsburgh.
In her early 30’s, Diane met her soulmate, the late Allen W. Smart, Jr. They were married for 25 wonderful years and spent time doing what she loved the most, traveling several times a year. Allen predeceased her in 2006. Diane also enjoyed gardening, reading, and spending time with her family. She was an avid Steelers fan and loved watching Venus and Serena Williams play in their tennis tournaments. Diane was also well known for her pretzel salad recipe, and it was always understood that pretzel salad would be one of the desserts at a holiday gathering.
Diane leaves to cherish her loving memory, brother, Leonard (Laurel) McMahon; sisters, Arlene Gordon, Carolyn Washington, and Brenda Accoo; sister-in-law, Leslee (Charles) Sparrow; stepdaughter, Dana Smart-Fernandez; three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of close friends.
