Deborah Ann Charley Apenteng passed away at home on November 13, 2024. She was born on July 17, 1952, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Henry C. Charley and Verdell Young Charley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her older brother, Henry E. Charley (Christine), of Los Angeles, California. Debbie attended Westinghouse High School and graduated in 1970. She studied Elementary Education at Penn State University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1974.
Debbie moved to Houston, Texas, where she started a job with AT&T in 1980. In 1998 she was transferred to Atlanta, Georgia, where she retired in 2002. Bored with retirement, Debbie realized she still had a desire to help people, so in 2007, she became a Child Support Services Agent for the State of Georgia. After nine years with Child Support Services, she retired for good.
Debbie is survived by her younger brother, James W. Charley (Vicky) of Cross Lanes, WV, sister-in-law, Christine Lockman Charley, nieces Michelle Charley Parker (Nathan), of Los Angeles, CA, Tori Charley, and nephew Ryan Charley (Ann) of Charleston, WV, and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Jim and Vicky want to give a special thank you to cousins, Kimberley Lee and Priscilla Jeffrey for looking after Debbie during her illness. We cannot thank you enough.
While Debbie made many friends throughout the years, there are two very special people who she considered family; Pamela Hall Rivera, her roommate from college and Buddy Turner of Atlanta, Georgia, who was considered her ‘work husband’. To Debbie, Buddy, his wife Stephanie and their children will always be family.
