David Russell was born on November 24, 1944, to Herbert L. Russell and Gladys L. Brown in Muse, Pennsylvania. David went home to be with the Lord on November 9, 2025, by his bedside was his dear sister, Carol Alleyne, as he sprouted his wings.
At the age of 17, David enlisted into the U.S. Army to serve his country, David followed his older brothers foot steps to answer our country’s call of duty, during Davids long career in the U.S. Army, he was awarded many military decorations to include the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal of Valor.
While growing up in Canonsburg, PA, David was a member on the Golden Gloves Boxing Team. He took his outstanding boxing skills along with him when he enlisted into the military. David earned a spot on the prestigious All Army Boxing Team in which only the best proven boxers could be chosen to be a part of the U.S. Army’s elite boxing organization, everyone knew David’s love for boxing, his love for sports cars, his love for the Pittsburgh Steelers, his love for his family, and love for his church family in Canonsburg, PA, however his greatest love ever was the love for his dear mother, Gladys Russell. David was indeed a mama’s boy, and he wore that title proudly. No matter where David was stationed or whatever far-off country he was serving in, he always kept in close contact with his mother by way of long-distance phone conversations and the very many letters that he wrote. David believed in family first and utmost. His strong family ties and support that he gave to any and all family members left an everlasting effect all throughout his family. Davids profound contribution to his family over the many years will be greatly missed. David never wanted anything in return. He instead would just say “that’s what family does for one another”. David’s love of family and his leadership over the years has had a major positive effect on us all, both young and older. Even though our dear David is no longer with us, lets keep him with us each day and near and dear to our hearts. Let us be sad but also let us be glad to have been so blessed in having him in our lives.
David Russell leaves behind his brothers Carl (Rozalind) and Jerry (Tara) and his sisters Carol and Illse. Proceeded in death by his son Herbert and brothers, Edward, Pete, Herbert, James, Walter, Merritt and his sisters,Beverly, Marva, Patricia, and Audrey.
