David Nathaniel Barren was born July 30, 1934, to the late Shellie and Cornelia Barren and departed this earthly life on June 20, 2024.
He attended Pittsburgh Public Schools and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1957 at the age of 22. His military service included time in Germany where he was selected as the motor transportation operator for a commissioned senior officer during wartime. In 1959 he married the love of his life, Dorothy (Middleton). David was employed as a truck driver delivering to various companies throughout the Pittsburgh area and was a hardworking and dedicated member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Union for over 30 years. He was also self-employed as a skilled tradesman and enjoyed installing carpets throughout the Pittsburgh area for decades.
David was a faithful servant of God and His son, Jesus Christ. He was a long-time member of The Church of the Living God, the Pillar and Ground of the Truth and loved sharing the Word with anyone who would listen.
David was a light for anyone who knew him. He loved sharing words of encouragement and his “don’t give up, keep getting up” mantra with everyone he knew and met. His unmatched gratitude and positive attitude will be missed by many.
David leaves loving and lasting memories to his wife, Dorothy; his five children, Gina Stephenson, Brigitte Barren Williams, David (Anrica) Barren, Heather (Alonzo) Nunley, and Morris (Michelle) Barren; 19 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; as well as his beloved sisters Priscilla Green, Leah Moton, Rachel Barren and Beverly Stotts; brothers Daniel Barren and Lawrence Banks; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
David’s legacy will continue in the lives that he touched and the wisdom that he shared.
Rest in peace!
