Courtney Carter was born on January 5, 2015, at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Corey Carter and Patricia Short. She passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and joy. Courtney was a bright student at Faison Elementary School, where she was set to begin the fourth grade. Her favorite subject was math, and she was affectionately known by her classmates as the “momma” of the class because of her nurturing and caring nature. Courtney was always ready to help and comfort others, even taking care of her mom when she was unwell. She shared a special bond with her mother, often leaving her sweet messages while she was at work. Despite this closeness, Courtney was also daddy’s girl. She began each day with a call to her father and, if she couldn’t reach him, she would call her grandma. Courtney’s light shone brightly wherever she went. She had a natural gift for spreading happiness, often making hearts with her hands and sharing her beautiful smile. She was smart, beautiful, and had a passion for dancing. Courtney loved to entertain and had her own show, “The Courtney Show,” on TikTok, where she delighted in making videos.
Courtney's memory will be cherished by her loving family: her mother, Patricia Short; father, Cory Carter Sr.; grandmothers, Daina Penn and Christina Short; grandfather, Kevin Crew; sisters, Felisha Freeman, Harmony Short, and Ciara Carter; and brothers, Cory Carter Jr., Elijah Freeman, Antoine Burton, Antonio Burton, and Duwayne Carter. She also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, family, and friends who will miss her dearly. Courtney was preceded in death by her sister, Kayonna Harper. Courtney’s loving spirit and joyful presence will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
