Coni Mae Hainsworth made her heavenly transition to rest with Jesus on Friday morning, May 15, 2026, in Pittsburgh, PA. Born in Monongahela, PA, on January 14, 1957, to Sue Ellen Byars and Otis Lang Jr., she was the second born grandchild of Rev. Dr. Chester H. Byars, Sr. and Beulah Mae Briscoe-Byars.
Coni accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Library, under the pastorate of her grandfather. She served faithfully in many capacities, including singing in the Mixed Mass Choir, Voices of Zion, leading the Praise Team, and serving as Assistant Director of the Sunbeams. She also devoted herself to spiritual instruction, including teaching Sunday School, leading the Saturday Morning Women's Bible Study, and guiding children as a Vacation Bible School leader.
Coni graduated from Monongahela High School. She completed a B.S. in Computer Science, Magna Cum Laude, from Point Park University, and a Technical Diploma in Applied Business Programming from The School of Computer Technology. She then received her Master of Arts in Human Services, Marriage and Family Counseling from Liberty University. She also earned a Biblical Counseling Certification from The Christian Research & Development Center.
Coni and her son Petey moved to Portsmouth, VA to be with her sister Lisa, in 1990. While living in Virginia, they joined Third Baptist Church, where they continued to share their God-given musical gifts as choir members. In later years, she united with Zion Temple Ministries, under the pastorate of Elder Gene A. Jarvis, Sr., faithfully serving in the music ministry, alongside her son Petey and daughter-in-love, Janita. When Coni moved back to PA after her marriage to Lorenzo Michael Hainsworth, Sr., together they became members of The Lord's Church of Pittsburgh, under the pastorate of Rev. Archie L. Dennis, Jr. and they joined the Praise Team under the direction of their mother, Sue E. Goodson who was serving as Minister of Music.
In 2008, Coni answered her call from God to preach His Word, and was licensed by Mt. Zion Baptist Church and began to minister there and at other churches throughout the Pittsburgh area. During this period, Coni also provided biblical counseling for individuals and couples.
Coni's professional career reflects decades of dedicated service across education, family support, administration, and community-focused organizations. Her career came full circle when she returned to Pennsylvania and worked with the Family Foundations Early Head Start Program as the Enrollment Recruitment Specialist Manager- University of Pittsburgh until her retirement. Before this role, she served as Partner and Operations Manager for two family-owned businesses-Children's Paradise and Lighthouse Learning Solutions. She also worked as Office Manager for Girls, Inc. and as a Partner Services Representative for the CBN/700 Club. Earlier in her career, Coni served as a Quality Assurance Analyst and Trainer for Sentara Health Management.
Coni concluded her work with children when she was briefly employed by Mlaker Student Transportation. At this time, she finally had the opportunity to meet her "18 year-old birthday twin", Ryan, when she monitored with her mother, Sue Goodson, who has transported him for the past eight years.
Coni was first married to Stanley R. Chapman II, and together they welcomed their beloved son, Stanley R. Chapman III (‘Petey'). Coni's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her son Petey and her cherished "grandboos", Jailah and Jahron. Later, she married Lorenzo Michael Hainsworth Sr., gaining children she lovingly embraced as her own, LaToya and Lorenzo Jr., and grandchildren, Teneyia, T'Aundre, Tiyauna, Lorenzo, Deandre, Javion and Jada. Coni was a second mother to her nieces and nephews, Breanna, Alexandria, Lavar, Infinity, Kaniyah, and Lennox, and alongside her sister, Lisa and brother-in-love, Melvin, she played an integral role in their upbringing.
She was preceded in death by her father, Otis Lang, Jr.; her husband, Lorenzo Michael Hainsworth Sr.; her brother, William (Billy) Goodson III; her beloved son, Stanley R. Chapman III ('Petey'); brother-in-love, Melvin H. Hainsworth, Sr., and her grandparents, Rev. Dr. Chester H. and Beulah M. Byars.
Coni, affectionately known as Grandma, Auntie Candy, Shilean, Miss Coni, and Rev. Candy leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, laughter, and cherished memories. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her mother, Sue Goodson-Conrad (Walter-Pap); sister, Lisa Goodson- Hainsworth (Karl); mother-aunt, Carol Berryman; uncle, James Byars (Debbie); grandchildren, Jailah and Jahron Chapman; daughter-in-love, Janita Leach (Terry); sister-in-love, Elder Alycia Goodson; devoted daughter-cousin, Kelly Whiting; mother-in-love, Mae Francis Lang; sisters, Oletha Lang, Kathy Lang and Denise Lang, brothers Otis Lang III, Marcus Lang, Carl Linton, Mark Womack, Paul Womack; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives will forever be touched by her love and kindness.
