Cheryl Jones Obituary

Cheryl Ann Jones was born on July 6, 1948, to the late Elizabeth Cathryn Thomas and Sylvester Thomas in Pittsburgh, Pa. She began her education in the Pittsburgh Public School System and later obtained her GED. A dedicated employee, she retired after 30 years of service with Bell Telephone that later became Verizon. On January 21, 1967, she gave birth to a daughter, Cora Marlene Brinzer who she loved, styled in all the latest fashions to mirror her own inner Diva.

In 1974, after her older sister, Cora, passed away, she received legal guardianship of Cathryn and Darryl Goins and raised them alongside her daughter Cora as siblings. Cheryl worked hard to give all 3 of her children the best life she could. Having strong convictions, she taught them respect, work ethic, and to always look your best. She was known to show up at the family cookout in a three-piece suit and was always the first one in line to eat.

While living in Pittsburgh, Cheryl attended Pentecostal Temple Church in East Liberty, Pa. She was a woman of unwavering faith and trusted God her entire life. She lived, spoke and walked by faith, not by sight. She would want you to know that with God ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE!

Towards the end of 2006, she relocated to North Carolina. an advent traveler, she often vacationed and loved to go on cruises. Cheryl was determined to enjoy her retirement and that she did until she was called to be with the Lord on November 18, 2025, in Kannapolis, NC at the age of 77.

She was blessed to stay at her daughter Cora's home in Pittsburgh for the last 5 months of her life. This gave her the opportunity to spend time with many friends and loved ones creating our final memories of her.

On November 18, 2025, Cheryl departed this life. She was preceded in death by her mother Elizabeth Cathryn Thomas, her father Sylvester Thomas, her siblings Silko Thomas, Larry Thomas, Loretta Fuller, Cora Goins, Elizabeth Jordan and her granddaughter Ja'Mes Watkins.

Cheryl leaves to cherish her loving memory of her, three children, Cora Brinzer, Cathy Watkins, and Darryl Goins, all from Pittsburgh, PA. Her two sisters, Patricia Cosby and Valerie Threets, and her brother Leroy Thomas. Also, her grandchildren, Marissa Brinzer, Patrick Brinzer, Jr., Bradley Brinzer, Richard Goins, Lashawn Watkins, Monique Watkins, Melody Watkins, Darryl Goins, Jr., Danielle Goins-Hogan, DeAnne Boswell, DaRelle Goins, DeNaya Goins, Dominique Goins, Lamont Lewis, and Lamar Lewis. And a host of great grandkids, nieces, and nephews.

Cheryl's memory remains alive in our hearts, and her signature phrase, "I'm glad you had a chance to see me", will echo lovingly in our spirits forever.
