Charles H. McCurdy
April 14, 1946 – January 22, 2026
Charles H. McCurdy, born in Waynesburg, PA, and a longtime resident of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away at the age of 79.
Known to many as Chuck, he was a devoted father with a good sense of humor, known for the twinkle in his eyes and a curiosity about many things. He was the caring father to three sons and one stepson.
Chuck was an accomplished guitarist whose love of music shaped much of his life. In his younger years, he played guitar in a rock-and-roll band, a chapter of his life he remained proud of. He once owned his own guitar shop, performed as part of the duo Chuck and Celeste, taught for many years at the Homewood Jazz Workshop, and gave private guitar lessons to students of all ages. Music was not only his craft but his way of connecting with others.
Chuck earned his Master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and spent many years working in a residential facility that helped people with mental health challenges live lives of dignity.
In his younger years, Chuck was also a talented athlete and enjoyed playing basketball. His love of sports and music was passed down to his sons and remained a shared bond throughout their lives.
He is survived by his sons, Charles G. McCurdy, Hunter J. McCurdy, and Forrest D. McCurdy, Sr.; his grandchildren, Hayden A. McCurdy and Forrest D. McCurdy Jr.; his sister, Frankie Ann Bonifield; Celeste Taylor, mother of his children; his brother-in-law, Jan Wingard; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles D. McCurdy and Mildred Silvius McCurdy; his sister, Jonna D. Wingard; and his stepson, Michael D. Taylor.
Chuck’s life was guided by creativity, care for others, and connection. May his memory be held in peace, and may the music and love he shared continue to resonate in the lives of those who knew him.
