Catherine Brown was born in Huntsville, Alabama on February 26, 1930, to parents Hattie Oliver and Gibson Townsend. Catherine was greeted into heaven by her siblings, Ethel Lee, Philip, Oliver, James Drake, and Jimmy Townsend; and her loving sister-in-law Corine.
Her formal name was Catherine, but she was affectionately called Bobbie by her family and close friends. She was known as Nana and grandma by her grandchildren.
Catherine was a member of Shiloh Community Baptist Church where she loved worshiping and singing in the choir. Catherine was a self-taught seamstress. She taught sewing classes, but one of her biggest accomplishments was designing a wedding gown and dresses for the wedding party.
A couple of days a week, she helped in the lunchroom at Fort Pitt Elementary School. There she established close friendships that continued well after she left the school.
In her sixties, Catherine decided to go back to work to stay active and involved. She worked part-time as a bagger at the Market District Giant Eagle Store.
There she won the affection of her co-workers and customers alike. She was dedicated to her job, never missing a day or being late.
On November 18, 2021, Catherine was called home by our Lord and Savior where she joined her son, Ronnie. She is survived by her two daughters: Yvonne and Angela; son-in-law Willie and daughter-in-law Patricia; grandchildren: Alexandria, Demetrious, Cody, Lamont, and Brian; and her great-granddaughters, India, Milania, and Giovanna.
Catherine is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who loved her.
