Carrie Branch Obituary

Carrie B. Branch born, was born December 27, 1919, in Sylvania, Georgia to the late James and Anna Brown. She left this world to be with her Heavenly Father on March 14, 2025. The oldest girl of 9 children, Carrie, who was thirteen became the Matriarch of her family after the passing of her mother. She helped raise her younger siblings while also caring for all the household duties for her family. In her early 20’s after having her first and only child Earlene she moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to join her aunts and uncles who had migrated for job opportunities. She would raise and watch her family grow for the next 85 years. She worked as a caretaker for many years before working at the PPG Corporation for 36 years. Carrie was a nurturer who enjoyed cooking for her family and tending to her garden, often supplying the family with fresh vegetables, herbs and flowers. She was known for sewing with her Black Singer sewing machine a familiar sight in her bedroom. She could often be seen taking her greatgranddaughters on walks up and down Wiltsie Street pushing them in a stroller, or cooking anything from her delicious fried chicken to her famous lemon poundcake. Every Christmas she would bake dozens of cookies with all her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews to be handed out to family and neighbors alike. Her wisdom and saying were always fondly remembered and recited reminding us of all the love both she and God have for her family. She was as a dedicated member to her church Greater Emanuel Apostolic Church where she was the Mother of the church. This would be the same place where she would meet her late husband Edward Branch. They married in 1998 and shared 17 wonderful years together. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Branch, her daughter Earlene Williamson, Grandson, Paul M. Williamson Jr., Grandson In-law, David Wheat, and siblings Willie, Goerge, Henry, Matthew, James, Nathaniel, Rose Mae, and Violet. After having been a provider of love for her friends and family for 105 years, she returned home to rest. Her legacy lives on through her son-in-law, Paul Williamson; Granddaughter, Tracy Williamson-Wheat; great-grandchildren, Paula Williamson, Daniel Williamson, Angel Wheat, and Sydney Wheat; greatgreat-grandchildren, Dexter Shaun Murray, Daniel Williamson Jr., Laila Wheat, Croix Gadsden, Cayman Gadsden, Kingston Gadsden, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. After serving her family and community faithfully under God’s guiding hand she has returned home to rest with her Father in Heaven.
