Carole Ann (Winston) Smith was born on December 3, 1941, to the late Thelma and William Winston in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She had two sisters, Audrey (Dixon) Lilly and Mary (Winston) Simpson; and one brother, Robert Lynch who all preceded her in death. She attended McKelvy Elementary, Herron Hill Jr. High, Schenley High School and North Hills School of Health Occupations. Carole accepted God as her saviour at an early age at Wesley Center AME Zion Church. She introduced her children to Christ at St. James AME Church and later became a life-long Homewood AME Zion Church member. Carole married the love of her life Lewis “Louie” Phillip Smith in 1964 and remained happily married until his untimely death in 1987. They had two daughters, Nicole Renee Smith and Rhonda Lynn Smith. She was employed at Alma Illery Health Center as a Pharmacy Technician for over 25 years and due to health reasons, she retired. Throughout her life, Carole always put God first. She loved her sisters, daughters and grandchildren dearly. She enjoyed listening to music, line dancing, cooking and travelling. Oh, how she loved to go on cruises! She had a special eye for fashion and always dressed from head to toe, looking beautiful and fierce! She was full of life and was never afraid to tell it like it was! Later in life, she married Eugene Lawrence in 2005 until he departed life in 2013. She devoted over 50 years to the Omega Grand Chapter Order of the Eastern Star, Heroines of Jericho, Lady Knights and Most Worthy Grand Matron Sheba Court #14 Daughter of Sphinx. She sat at the Grand and State seats on various levels and was an avid educator in each house. On Sunday, April 21, 2024, God called his humble servant home to rest in the eternal Heavenly Kingdom. She is survived by daughters, Nicole and Rhonda Smith; granddaughter, Kariss Smith; great-grandchildren, Nikai Smith and twins, Zen and Asa Smith; and many other relatives and close friends she loved dearly.
