Blenda "Lindie" Allen Obituary

Blenda "Lindie" Marcia Allen, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, transitioned from this life on January 9, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born on March 17, 1952, in Charleroi, PA, to Mrs. Betty Jane and Mr. Jesse D. Littleton, Blenda spent her early years in Donora, PA before moving to Pittsburgh, PA at the age of 8. A proud graduate of Westinghouse High School, Class of 1970, and she cherished the lifelong friendships formed there. After graduation, Lindie began her secretarial career at industrial behemoth, U.S. Steel, and later worked as a clerk at the United States Bankruptcy Court. She retired after 44 dedicated years of employment.

Although she exhibited a remarkably consistent record, her professional commitment was second to her devotion to the Church. A lifelong member of St. James AME Church where she participated in the Pro-To Ministry and Women’s Usher Board. Lindie’s warm heart and generous spirit made her a source of light and love to those who knew her well and even those who did not.

She took great pleasure in being a beloved aunt to her niece and nephews and continued to develop deep bonds with them into adulthood. Her radiance and outgoing spirit helped her meet and ultimately marry the love of her life, the late Daryle Allen, in 1990. Together, they raised their son, Brett, with pure pride and joy. Family vacations and holiday celebrations were deeply important to Lindie, and she wholeheartedly devoted her time and energy to these special moments. Lindie and Daryle shared 31 warm, laughter-filled years together, which included living with her mother, the late Betty Bost, and nurturing their blended family with care and devotion. A committed wife and daughter, Lindie gave selflessly to maintain an organized household and was the primary caretaker for both her mother and husband toward the end of their lives.

Lindie was admired for her impeccable fashion sense and her affinity for glamour. Through her flawless skin, complementary makeup, perpetually “done” hair, and approachable personality, she embodied a standard of beauty, inside and out, that was truly unique. She expressed her creativity routinely. She was a marvelous beautician, a picture-perfect gift-wrapper, and could bake a pie crust that would often render any sweet filling an after-thought. Lindie was also a member of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. and an avid Pittsburgh sports fan.

Lindie was preceded in death by her husband Daryle, her grandparents, her parents, several aunts, uncles, and cousins with whom she held a special relationship. She is survived by her loving son Brett (Carla) Allen, step-children, Daryle Allen II, Dion Allen, and Dannae Allen. Devoted sister Jessica Hicks, niece and god-daughter Shari (Chris) Graham, nephews William "BJ" (Nicci) Hicks and Darren (Lesley) Hicks, great-nieces Olivia, Ella, and Sadé, great-nephews Solomon, William, and Linden; uncle George (Ernestine) Harris, cousins Bunnie Kemp, Sylvia (Oscar) Harris, Lawrence (Theodora) Harris, Debbie Harris, Lawrence (Carol) Harris, Alexis Harris, Donnie Littleton, Joyce Smith Warden, Ronda Littleton-Johnson, Eleanor Littleton, and Sheila Moten also live on to carry forth her memory.
