BIOGRAPHY
Betty Rose Walden-Taylor was born on September 17, 1942, in Burke County, Georgia, to the late Emma Lee Mc 'Clyde and John Willie Walden. She was later raised in Pittsburgh, where she built a life rooted in faith, famis.v, and service. Betty peacefully transitioned on January 11, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Betty attended Pittsburgh Public Schools and was a proud graduate of Fifth Avenue High School. In her formative years, Betty worked for the City of Pittsburgh. She concluded her career with Hospital Central Services, from which she retired. Betty also devoted much of her life to missionary work, ministering in various prisons and offering hope, prayer, and compassion to those in need. A deeply faithful woman. Betty accepted God as her personal Savior and was saved in church in 1977. She most recently served as an evangelist at Morningside Church of God in Christ.
Betty was known for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and willingness to help anyone in need. She carried herself with grace, always wearing a warm smile and speaking with wisdom and intention. She was a godly woman who lived her faith daily. She found great joy in preparing Sunday and holiday dinners and cherished every moment spent with her family.
Betty leaves to cherish her precious memory her children: Angela "Niecy" Beck (Kevin Beck), Sherry Taylor-Griggs (William Griggs), Melissa Taylor-Johnson (Thomas Johnson), Fidelis Taylor; Tanya Taylor; and Tracey Frazier; her goddaughter; Louise Hammond; godsons, Monty Griffin and Tyrone Williams; her sisters, Margaret Walker, Mary Patterson, Shirley Birch, and Mary Drayton; 24 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her twin brother, James Walden; her brothers, Verdies Coppet, John Moses Walden, and Sammie Walden; her sisters, Dorothy Bynes, Marian Walden-Yates, Elease Burley, and Pauline Cheatham; her granddaughter, Taja Griggs; and her great-granddaughter, Melani Taylor-Burden.
