The Life and Legacy of Betty Taylor
Betty Taylor, age 94, beloved wife, sister, aunt, and cherished friend to all who knew her, was called home to glory on May 12, 2026. Born on January 8, 1932, to the late Adelaide and William Johnson, Betty was a lifelong resident of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a city she called home until her last breath.
The middle of eight children born to Adelaide and William, Betty grew up surrounded by the warmth of a large and loving family. She attended Westinghouse High School in Pittsburgh, where she laid the foundation for a life defined by dedication, warmth, and service. From a young age, it was clear that Betty possessed an extraordinary heart and made every room she entered a little brighter.
Faith was the cornerstone of Betty’s life. A devoted and lifelong member of Carrone Baptist Church for over 80 years, she served faithfully as a Church Aide, a testament to her unwavering commitment to her congregation and church family.
Betty dedicated her professional life to the care and service of others. She served with compassion as a nurse, tending to those in need with the same gentle spirit she brought to everything she did. Following her retirement from nursing, she
embraced a new chapter as a valued and beloved employee of Murrysville Antiques, where she worked for over three decades until 2020. Her customers will always remember her warm smile and her gift for making everyone feel at home.
In 1960, Betty found her greatest partner in love and life when she married the late T. Kenneth Taylor. For 29 years, their union was a model of devotion, steadiness, and shared joy. Betty carried his memory with grace for the rest of her days.
To know Betty was to know laughter. She had a love for good food, good conversation, and the company of people she adored. A true world traveler, she explored the world alongside family and friends. She treasured her monthly Club Meetings, a beloved tradition among her circle of girlfriends, who gathered at one another’s homes to share meals and celebrate friendship and fellowship in the most beautiful way. Betty was, at her core, a genuine and generous spirit. In her later years, she spent considerable time each year in Atlanta with her extended family, a cherished chapter of her life that brought her close friendships and dear loved ones she held in her heart always.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, T. Kenneth Taylor; her beloved parents, Adelaide and William Johnson; her brothers, Joe Johnson, William Johnson, and Henry Johnson; and her sisters, Mrs. Dolores McCallum, Bernice Johnson, and Esther Johnson.
She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Kathleen Johnson, and a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by her presence.
Betty Taylor did not simply live a long life—she lived a full one. She will be forever missed and forever loved.
