Beatrice Mae Stokes, surrounded by her loving family, passed on March 6, 2023, at the age of 96 after a long fulfilled life.
She was born to the late Walter Stokes and Nina Simpson on June 4, 1926, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania. Beatrice will lovingly be remembered by her daughter, Nina Marie Joyner Pettiford; her grandchildren, Kim Korber and Charles Pettiford; her great grandchildren, Latrice and Lawnna Stevenson, Maya, Jada, Taylor, Malaysha, Carlito, Brooklyn, and Calid Pettiford; two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her siblings Elise Marie, Lawrence, and Edward; her husband, Milton Louis Joyner; and her son, Milton Louis Joyner Jr.
Beatrice attended Monessen High School. She furthered her education in bookkeeping at Community College of Allegheny County, Homewood Brushton campus. Beatrice went on to become a nurse, spreading her decade-long career between UPMC-Presbyterian Hospital and the V A Hospital located in the Hill District. She was a devoted member of Valley View Presbyterian Church in Garfield, Pennsylvania. She was active in he communities at the Garfield Commons and Penn Arbor Apartments as well as the Community Life Center for 16 years.
She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
