Barbara L. Smith was born on September 13, 1947, in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. She later lived in Detroit, Michigan, before settling on the Northside of Pittsburgh, where she spent the remainder of her life. Barbara was a devoted mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She cherished her family deeply and was known for her kindness, warmth, and unwavering love. In her youth, Barbara was an exceptional swimmer with Olympic potential. She also had a passion for shooting pool and deep-sea fishing during her travels. She found great joy in cooking, listening to music, and dancing— pastimes that brought happiness to both her and those around her. Barbara attended the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) and went on to work as a secretary for the Pittsburgh National Urban League. She later pursued a career as a school bus driver for students with special needs, a role she was most passionate about and held in high regard. She is survived by her loving children, Lisa, Edward, and Allen; her siblings, Samantha, Patrick, Zachary, and Fredrick; and her cherished grandchildren, Kevin, Tamara, Devon, Jeremy, Kylie, Jaiden, Janessa, and Amaya. She also leaves behind her beloved great-granddaughter, Melody, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Claude; her parents, Eloise Freeman and Edward Boyd; and her siblings, Carroll Carter, Jacqueline Boyd, and Edward Boyd. She was also reunited with several beloved nieces, nephews, and great-nephews who passed before her. Barbara’s legacy of love, resilience, and generosity will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved her.
