Barbara Ann Smith-Davis was born on December 6, 1935, in New York, New York, to loving parents Willie and Rebecca Smith. She was a devoted sister to Hattie Smith and brother-in-law Hubert Bryant, and a proud aunt to nephews Hubert Bryant Jr. and Emanuel Williams. Barbara graduated from Schenley High School, where she met and soon married Douglas Davis. Together, they raised three daughters: Rebecca Yvette Davis, Claudette Andrea Davis, and Faith Danett Davis. While nurturing her young family, Barbara pursued higher education and later graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pittsburgh—an achievement that reflected her deep commitment to learning. With a passion for education, Barbara went on to serve many years as a dedicated teacher with the Board of Education. She was a specialist in mathematics and reading, and also a trained educator in the Montessori method. Her influence as a teacher was profound, touching the lives of countless students over the years. Beyond her professional and academic accomplishments, Barbara was known for the love she shared with those closest to her. Cecil Edwards was the great love of her life. She was also a proud grandmother to Chamalie Singh and mother-in-law to Wayne Wilson. Barbara leaves behind a host of cherished family members, dear friends, former students, and colleagues who will forever remember her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering spirit. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
