Artelia Parker Obituary

Artelia “Teenie” Parker exchanged life for eternity on Saturday, November 26, 2022.

Artelia Dolores (Hayes) Parker was born January 25, 1931, in Beaver Falls, PA to Arthur Douglas Hayes and Florence Geneva Hayes who both preceded her in death.

Teenie, as she was affectionately known to her family and friends, was raised and educated in Beaver Falls, PA. As a child, Teenie enjoyed physical activity, especially basketball. At the age of 15, she was given the opportunity to attend The Thyne Institute, a Historical Black Boarding School in Chase City, Virginia. Her aunt, Lucy Hayes, was a founder of the school and personally invited Teenie to attend. Upon graduation, Artelia, went on to further her education at The Community College of Allegheny County and  Point Park College.

Artelia was a long-time employee of The Westinghouse Corporation alongside her sister Eleanor before relocating to Pittsburgh, PA. She spent many years working at The Garfield Community Center as a healthcare representative and advocate for the residents of the area. She diligently worked to care for and cover those who needed assistance and healthcare guidance for more than two decades. Artelia would later transition to working at The Iroquois Memory Disorder Clinic and as a medical transcriptionist at Presbyterian Hospital before retiring.

While Teenie delighted in attending flea markets, traveling by train, and attending church at Petra International Ministries, her true joy came from being a mother and aunt. They say that the most important mark a mother leaves on this world is a son, and Artelia made four amazing ones; Arthur Douglas (Butchie) who preceded her in death, Michael Thomas, William Craig (Billy), And Daryl Steven.

Upon the passing of her two older sisters Geneva and Eleanor, Artelia took on the role of matriarch within the family and covered her nephews and niece Douglas Grant, Denise Mickler Meyers, and Alan Grant along with her Grandson Michael T. Goosby and Great-Grand-daughter Miya Lee Goosby. She also leaves behind a host of family and friends that will fondly remember her beautiful smile and spirit.

When you think of Teenie, find comfort in knowing her job here is done. She received a call, sort of an offer you can’t refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning. The assignment comes with a huge sign-on bonus, a reunion with family and friends that she has not seen in a long time. Job security is exactly 110 percent. Her new mission takes her to a wonderful place where she will be socializing, binge-watching Westerns on TV, and visiting Flea Markets to her heart’s content. Music, laughter, and love are guaranteed. The food is delicious, and you never gain a pound. She left detailed instructions to her friends and family to celebrate her mission here, which has now been completed.
