Anzy Henderson Obituary

Anzy Henderson was born on March 05, 1923 in Savannah, Georgia to the late Anzy Henderson and Georgia Brown. Anzy lost both of his parents by the time he was five years old and he and his sister Doris were raised by different aunts.

Anzy moved to New ork City as an adult where he was reunited with his sister who had relocated there and was raising her family. He met and fell in love with his first wife, Grace., who preceded him in death in 1977 after thirty years of marriage. Anzy and Grace raised two daughters and one son.

Anzy moved to Pittsburgh in 1988 after marrying Betty Coleman, the second love of his life, who also preceded him in death after 23 years of marriage.

Anzy was employed at and retired from V.A. Hospital in the Bronx, New York. He was also a World War II veteran who served in the Army.

Anzy was a devoted and faithful member of the Baptist Church. He serves as a deacon at the Light of Life Church after moving to Pittsburgh and later joined Mt. Ararat Church. Anzy loved the Lord, his family, and friends with all his heart. In spite of his early tragedies, he grew up to be one of the sweetest, gentlest, and most patient men that walked the earth. He always has a smile on his face and an infectious laugh. He loved interacting with people and had many life-long friends. Sadly, he outlived many of his friends but he always said he would just have to make new ones, which he did.

Anzy was called home to the Lord on February 19, 2021, exactly two weeks of his 98th birthday. He leaves to cherish his memory his three children: Cynthia Ferguson of Dayton, Ohio, Derek Henderson od New York, NY, Denise Henderson of Pittsburgh: three stepchildren: Walter "Sonny" Coleman (Kathy) of Spokane, Washington, Celeste Garner, and Diana Coleman of Pittsburgh; one sister Doris Garretson of Atlanta, Georgia; special friends Betty Reid of New York, NY; twelve grandchildren: Edward Ferguson III (Pamela), Candace Ferguson (Michael), Derek Ferguson (Elizabeth), Damien Shavers (Princess), Jason Shavers, Lonnie, Dean, and Walter Coleman, Robert Garner (deceased), Melissa Perez (Sammy), Che Lipscomb (Kitten), Nico Coleman and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews,

He will be truly missed by all those who knew him and loved him.
