Anna (née Annie) Pearl Taylor, affectionately known to family and friends as “Teenie,” was born on June 3, 1939, in Sylacauga, Alabama, to Annie McCore Oden and George Minniefield. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mildred Oden Lawson.
Anna attended Sylacauga High School and relocated to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1958. On February 7, 1959, she was united in holy matrimony to Bernard Taylor, Sr. In honor of their 50th wedding anniversary, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl proclaimed “Bernard and Anna Taylor Day” in the City of Pittsburgh in 2009.
For much of her adult life, Teenie was a dedicated homemaker. She found joy in caring for both children and adults and, once her children were in school, held a variety of service industry positions. During her time with the Pittsburgh Housing Authority, she made lasting friendships while serving as a lobby monitor.
Teenie’s home was the heart of family gatherings. Known for her legendary fried chicken and barbecue—never with leftovers—she created a warm and festive atmosphere during the holidays. Her miniature ceramic village displays, macaroni and cheese, stuffing, and sweet potato pies were family favorites. Holiday meals were served late so she could deliver plates to friends from church and residents of the high-rise where she worked.
A devoted member of Sixth Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Teenie served faithfully as President of the Ushers and sang in both the mass and gospel choirs.
Tennie transitioned peacefully into eternal rest in accordance with God’s plan on October 6, 2025, at Highland Hills Nursing Home, where she received exemplary care.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband of 66 years, Bernard Taylor, Sr., six sons: Victor (Dianne) Taylor, Carson (Mary Jean) Taylor, Dr. Bernard Taylor, Jr., Randall Taylor, Callen Bruce (Myra Dyahan) Taylor, and Derek Chance Taylor. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren, whose lives she deeply touched. (See back of program for complete listing.)
