Allen Simpson Jr Obituary

Allen Ralph Simpson Jr. was born on July 27, 1951, in Pittsburgh. He was the eldest of three children born to Doris and Allen Ralph Simpson Sr. Allen received his early education at Baxter Elementary School and later attended Westinghouse High School, where he proudly represented the Bulldogs. In 1969, he transferred to Wilkinsburg High School, becoming a Tiger and graduating with the Class of 1970. During his high school years, Allen met the love of his life, Marette Nelson. The two quickly became inseparable, and it was evident to all who knew them that they were true sweethearts. They were later united in marriage, and to this union three children were born: Allen III, Arthur, and Alleca. Allen furthered his education at McCook Junior College before transferring to Colorado State University, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. His athletic talent opened doors to a professional football career. In 1975, he was drafted by the New York Giants, where he played until 1976. He later continued his career with the BC Lions from 1977 to 1979. After his football career ended, Allen devoted his life to helping others. He worked at the Rehabilitation Institute of Pittsburgh and the Renewal Center before relocating to North Carolina, where he continued his work as a social worker. When his father became ill, Allen returned home to Pittsburgh, dedicating himself to serving individuals battling addiction through various drug and recovery programs until his retirement. Allen’s spiritual journey began at his parents’ church, Bethany Baptist Church. Upon returning to Pittsburgh, he was baptized in Jesus’ name and became a faithful member of Greater Bethlehem Temple Church under the leadership of the late Bishop F. M. Thomas. There, he served in the Gospel Choir and faithfully worked in the church dining ministry. Though life presented many challenges, Allen’s love for the Lord remained steadfast. He later became a member of The Fountain of Life International Fellowship under Bishop Gerald Loyd, and most recently joined Zion Apostolic Assembly under the leadership of Apostle Karen B. Garland. Allen was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who deeply cherished his family. Despite life’s imperfections, his love for his children and generations to follow was evident and unwavering. On March 22, 2026, Allen departed this life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Allen Sr., as well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law. He leaves to cherish his memory: his children, Allen III (Davonna) Simpson, Arthur Simpson, Alleca (Martese) Standard, and Amanda Simpson; his grandchildren, Joshua (Erin), Jordan (India), Dayna, Jonah, Janelle, Aubree, Malik, Micah, Naila, Jeremiah (Christina), Alana (James), Kristopher (Chanelar), Joy (Darren), Diamond, London, Asia, Skyler, and Kaiden; his brothers, Keith (Tallulah) and Kevin (Kathy); 15 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends.
