Alberta B. Smith, a beloved matriarch, friend and community pillar was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on March 30, 1927. She was the oldest daughter of the late Robert Lee Smith and Lucille Smith.
Alberta was raised in the Hill District section of Pittsburgh, and she attended the Pittsburgh Public School system. After graduation, she continued her education attending the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC).
Known for her strong work ethic, Alberta approached every job with dedication and excellence, leaving an enduring impression of diligence and responsibility throughout her career. She retired from a Management Position in the Dietary Department at Presbyterian Hospital in 1989.
Alberta's grace, class and warm personality was loved by all who knew her. She led her life, always putting her family first and ensuring that everyone felt valued and cared for. Blessed to witness five generations of her family, Alberta led by example, offering kindness, faith, and devotion to those around her.
Family was the heart of Alberta's world, and she never missed an opportunity to celebrate the milestone of her loved ones. She purchased her first home in 1986, and her holiday gatherings were legendary, filled with warmth, laughter, and the finest touches of hospitality, from elegant china to a beautifully decorated home. She delighted in tradition, ensuring her home had a real Christmas tree and that every family member received a thoughtful gift.
Her care extended far beyond her family and into her community. Alberta was a steadfast supporter of her neighbors, celebrating their triumphs and standing with them through challenges. Alberta's legacy of love, service, and joy will live on in thehearts of her family and all who had the privilege to know her.
She departed this life October 14, 2024, for eternal life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee Smith and Lucille Smith; sister, Chirstine Martin; daughter, Tammy Murphy; grandsons, Robert Joseph Murphy, and Tremaine Woodso.
She leaves cherished memories to her children, Chester Smith, Sharon Smith, Carol Rollins, Deborah Smith, and Roberta Stephens; Grandchildren, Emmanuel, Sonja, Jamie, Kamiyah and Theodore "TJ".
