Ada Mae Richards Raines was born on October 27, 1937, in Abbeville, Alabama, to the late Frank Richards Sr. and Adele Carter Rodgers. She later moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School System. Ada went on to pursue higher education and graduated from Saint Francis University, specializing in Outpatient Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Services. She dedicated her professional career to caring for others, working at Sky Vue Terrace Nursing Home, where her compassion and work ethic left a lasting impact on many. Ada’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a devoted member of Triumph Church Holiness of Holiness. She loved to sing, and one of her favorite songs, “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands,” was a testament to her unwavering belief in God. Her favorite scripture, Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV) provided her with comfort and hope throughout her life. Ada was a woman of many talents and passions. She loved walking and bowling and was an active member of her beloved social group, “The Red Hats.” A talented crocheter, Ada created personalized baby blankets for each of her grandchildren, leaving behind treasured keepsakes filled with her love. She was also an exceptional cook, known for her famous Christmas nut rolls, which became a cherished family tradition. Ada had an impeccable sense of style, ensuring that every outfit was complete with designer shoes and a matching handbag. Her love of fashion, paired with her zest for life and devotion to her family, defined her vibrant spirit. Ada departed this life on January 18, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, faith, and dedication. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnnie Lee Raines; her sister, Theresa Gorman; and her brother, Frank Richards. Ada’s memory will forever be cherished by her children, Vannie C. Boyd, Michael (Gena) Raines, and Tammy (Maurice) Miller; her stepdaughters, Cynthia (James) Barnhart and Runai Smith; her siblings, Frances Evans, Cheryl Ray, Marie Garrett, Rev. Dr. Robert E. Walker Jr., and David Walker; her four adored grandchildren, Ada Ann Jamison, Charles Wayne Jamison II., Maurice R. Miller Jr., and Paige A. Raines; a host of great-grandchildren, Christyada Gordon, Christopher Gordon, and Charles Jamison III and countless nephews, nieces, and friends who were blessed to know her. Ada Mae Richards Raines was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her. Her dedication to her faith, family, and community serves as an enduring example of a life well-lived.
