Wilbert (Wookie) Barber was born March 12, 1960 in Braddock Pennsylvania to Wilbert and Alice Barber. He was the eldest of four children, At the age of six the family moved to Penn Hills, Pa. where he attended Penn Hills school district and was involved in many sports including wrestling, football and basketball. As a kid he learned the ethics of earning a living by working at Regent Bottling Company with his father and brothers. Upon graduating high school in 1978 he immediately enlisted in the Armed Forces for six years traveling to many different states and countries. After returning home from the Army in 1984 he gained employment at Penn Vascular Lab as a sonogram technician and continued his education in similar and various fields. His most recent job was a Sales Agent at Penn Power energy for seven years.
In August of 1985 his first daughter Andrea was born and in August of 1987 his second daughter Anita was born. Wookie was charismatic, funny, charming, and the life of every party and he also loved the lord. He was known as a comedian and loved his family tremendously. He had a big heart and cared for many people, one good deed that he will never be forgotten for is saving a young boy’s life that was having a seizure. He was also well known at the local food bank for his volunteer work. God call him home unexpectedly on February 25, 2019.
He was preceded in death by his father Wilbert Barber Sr. in 2010. He is survived by his loving family his mother Alice Barber, children Andrea and Anita Barber and their brother Joel Flowers, siblings Duane, Myron(Sonya), and Dana(Kemp) Barber; Grandchildren Camerin, Corey, Landon, Cody, and Lincoln Barber; Aunts Oradean Williams, and Iris Elliot; His nieces and nephews; Tinea, Darneece, Myron Jr., Nakita Cook, and Antwan Crosby; Great nieces and nephews, Aona and Tkai.; and a host of cousins and friends.
