Rapha C. Mitchell, Jr. (Uncle Butch) was born to Rapha C. Mitchell, Sr. and Minnie Tench Mitchell on July 29, 1947, in Pittsburgh, PA.
Rapha, Jr., was the second eldest child of their nine children. He was educated in the Pittsburgh Public Schools and graduated from Westinghouse High School in 1966. While in school, Rapha ran track and was proud of winning several city championships. Shortly after graduating from high school, he joined and served in the United States Army. After completing hhis time in the military, Rapha Jr. was united in marriage to Donna Robinson who transitioned to Glory on July 4, 1978. No children were born to this union.
Over the years, Rapha was employed by Westinghouse Electric in East Pittsburgh, U. S. Airways and Port Authority of Pittsburgh, where he was still employed at the time of his transition. Rapha was always a dependable employee, which was confirmed by the fact that re received awards at every job for his perfect attendance. Rapha was also a faithful person and friend who happily volunteered to drive the church van and to assisting the elderly and others as needed.
Rapha was a true man of God, who was knowledgeable about scriptures and loved to share the Word. Rapha was a longtime member and a trustee of Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church. Rapha was a very generous and sincere person who loved to joke around. He had a passion for all people (especially his large family); and was a devoted father to his daughter, Raelynn. He loved listening to gospel and doo wop music, traveling with his daughter, Raelynn.
Rapha was preceded in death by his parents, Rapha Mitchell, Sr. and Minnie Tench Mitchell, his brothers, Carlton Mitchell, Harold Mitchell and his oldest sister, Cornelia Mitchell Orbison.
He leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his life, his daughter, Raelynn Mitchell, his siblings Valowell Mitchell, William Mitchell, Iva Mitchell Tucker, April Mitchell (fiancee', Percy ward, Jr.), Bernard Mitchell, Juanita Mitchell and Scott Mitchell; brother-in-law, James Orbison, also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends, coworkers and church family. Extended family includes Janet Mitchell, the Hall Family and the Grant Family.
