Obituary

Pearl Herring was the youngest child born to the union of Nathan and Annie Mae Herring on November 20, 1942 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, both of her parents preceded her in death. Two of Pearl’s siblings preceded her in death: Barbara Herring and Melvin Herring. Pearl was educated in the Pittsburgh Public School system. She graduated from Fifth Avenue High School . She furthered her education with an Associates degree from the University of Pittsburgh with a major in Psychology. Pearl also studied at Carlow College. She worked at the Allegheny County Health Department for more than 20 years. Pearl loved her job, she enjoyed her work as a Social Worker. She was a dedicated Social Worker often going above and beyond to meet the needs of those that she serviced. Pearl was a tithing member of Mt. Ararat Baptist Church for many years. Pearl was married to the late Douglas Manley Sr. From that union came two children: Douglas Manley Jr., and Tamara (Carlos) Bailey. Pearl married Maurice Poole and from that union came two children Barbara (DeWayne) Mahaffey and Omar (Chaka) Poole. She was also the loving step-mother to Maurice Poole and Heidi Poole. Anyone that knew her could attest to the fact that she was a very caring person. She would go out of her way to help anyone she could. She was also known for being very stylish. She would always command attention with her style and dress when she walked into any room!! Pearl leaves to cherish her loving memory: her husband, Maurice Poole, siblings, Nathan Herring Jr., Betty Jean (William) Muse, and her niece Linda Herring, who was raised with Pearl as a sister. Four children, Douglas Manley Jr, and two step-children Maurice Poole and Heidi Poole, seven grandchildren: Katrika Manley, Sheheda Manley, Lamar Eleam, Deonte’ Manley, Reynaldo Mays Jr., Omar Poole Jr., and Amir Poole and step-granddaughter Quiana Poole. Twelve and 1/2 great grandchildren and a host of loving family and friends.
